I've been on a Journey since somewhere around 2003. Maybe it was before that, but until then I didn't know it. A Journey of dissatisfaction with my own spiritual walk and depth of my faith. In this Journey, a number of men have played significant roles. I've met one of them, read several of them. Erwin McManus and Rob Bell were the 2 guys that resonated most with me. Now comes "Love Wins." I won't read the book. The reviews are pretty clear. And no, I don't need to read it for myself. That argument doesn't even make sense.
But here is why I'm sad. I think the Journey so many of us are on must have real answers. The problem with the modern rhetorical-constant-questioning is that you don't answer the questions. Or you assumed that traditional answers are wrong because you don't like the emotional implications of the answers. So you change the questions. But "mean Christians" and a just God are two different equations. 2+2 still equals four, even if quantum mechanics, astrophysics and Einstein still don't all line up.
And it goes back to this. Sometimes, you can ask the right questions and come to the wrong answers. No everyone is right. If Rob Bell is right, my life is meaningless and pointless. Being part of a movement proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is pointless. The martyrdom and suffering of millions in past ages and current realities, are all pointless. Raising my son with a terminal illness far away from relatives and comfort, pointless.
And I'm sad. Because I lost a friend in the Journey, a Voice that I resonated with, a fellow traveler. But unfortunately, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." (Robert Frost, 1920)
So goodbye for now my fellow traveler. I feel your pain. I just don't come to the same answers. If you're right, the Teacher will grade both our papers right. So far, that's never been my experience. Love May Win, but I lost a friend on a lonely Journey.

I have been on a journey myself for a while and as i walk the path i have chosen my humanness causes me to stumble hard and yet at many times i feel like i am doing the wrong thing all the time.. why bother getting up? I at times feel very aware of my actions and i am disgusted with myself and think how unworthy I am. Then i met God or more like God met me, and my life has been radically shifted but yet i feel at times i encounter the same issues but under different circumstances, the only difference is i have him with me always walking side by side with me.
I learnt that much like a Father to a Son my relationship is based so much in that dynamic, at first you love your father cause he is your foot stool to everything he is your center and to a child with limited knowledge we create limited perception about him, he is loving when he hugs me and plays with me but at times he is cruel and harsh and beats me for no reason it seems. As a human you only stay a child so long and your perceptions change and you begin to see that what you thought was true for your father that he hit you for no reason and punished you, you now as an adult and maybe even a father begin to see what was really happening; the suffering and punishment was temporary and only administered for our own sake.
I feel humanity is growing, much like a child we are evolving and our perceptions can change. Rob Bell and Erwin are asking questions, they are not claiming the answers they merely continue the dialog to unravel the true nature of God. What a world it would be like if we remained ignorant as child and assumed that we were harshly punished and never corrected our children, we would raise undisciplined kids, that would grow up as adults in a world with no boundaries and worldview warp by chaos and anarchy. Imagine what a costly mistake that would be to society and humanity as whole. The truth is we don't know everything and that man is susceptible to fall. But in our downfall we must not remain proud and arrogant about what we have discovered. Our fall should make us more humble and allow us to see things for what they are. I think there is more to our father than what we already know, and that Rob Bell is bringing to the table is not abolish those beliefs but to re adjust our focus on what Jesus meant for our time here on earth. Let eternity worry about eternity when we get there. But at the end of the day why would God create us just to destroy us, i know that my children i have brought to this earth i would never want to destroy them, it sounds absolute and absurd no matter what they have done. If we as humans a shadow of the almighty think this way maybe just maybe we have made the wrong perception about our father. If he loves us why would he condemn us to hell? Don't forget also that Jesus was a radical he brought a different view on the current religious climate and he got smashed for it, even killed for it.
